Getting Ready for next semister

My oh my, I cannot believe how quickly this summer is going. Yes we are out on break, but classes start right back up at UCSF. If you’re a new student, you can check out the schools website for class schedules and the start dates for school. I don’t know, I have mixed feelings about going back. It’s like a love hate. I love my friends and professors but I do not like the actual work of school work. I feel that it’s really boring sometimes and I just don’t really want to do the work.

So I have good days and I have bad ones. Some days are more interesting than others. For example, when we learn about the brain (I LOVE science), it absolutely fascinates me to learn more. I can’t stop learning and I love it. But a basic biology class, which by the way I failed last year, was so incredible difficult for me… I don’t know, it just bothers me.

My thoughts on next semester

I think next semester is going to be a good one. Even with all the tough classes, I’m going to stick it out and persevere. I’ve made all kinds of friends here, including Stevie, whose dad owns a business a few hours away from here (click here to check out his website). I’ve been building a relationship with Stevie for a while and he’s one of the main reasons I love it here so much.  He’s a very sweet guy and he’s always making me laugh.

I guess I’m realizing that my time here is coming to an end. I mean, I’m only going to be a sophmore, but still, I will only have 2 more years left after this one. Then I’m going to be old lol. And I don’t really even know what I’m going to be doing after I graduate (considering I do graduate.) Continue reading

One of my favorite things to do now that school is out for the summer here in San Francisco

Not too far away actually, right across the bay is Oakland and so my friends and I got a couple Warriors games. And we got to check out the man, the myth, the legend himself…. Who’s Steph curry you may ask? Well if you don’t know, now you know! He’s like the best NBA and basketball player of all time IMHO. Aint seen highlights? Just check this out, and you’ll hardly believe it.

How incredible is that no we live just a few miles away or arena or form? I’ve also been to the giants stadium. I love going to the game because the stadium so nice the players are so hot. Yes I’m a little bit shallow, what other girls my age arent lol.

We had such a fun time at the giants game and I remember one of my friends was by the outfield wall and dance with one of the giants the homerun and almost fell over LOL!!

And although I didn’t get to go to any 49ers (and yes they are my favorite colors!) or Oakland Raiders games…. although I hope to go to some this year. Continue reading

My little trip to San Diego

As you guys know, I’m studying in San Francisco but this weekend we had a break from classes. So I decided to go down to San Diego because I’ve never been there before. And oh my gosh let me tell you it is one of the most beautiful places on the planet earth. Just absolutely beautiful, and the people were so so nice. The surf culture is pretty ‘RAD’ and ‘gnarley’ too. The beaches there are absolutely gorgeous, and the weather is unprecedented . I mean it was seriously like seventy I tried out surfing with my friends, and we went all the coastal towns such as

  • Encinitas
  • Delmar
  • Mission Beach
  • Oceanside
  • Carlsbad
  • Pacific Beach
  • Coronado Island

Each and every degrees the entire time and there was no humidity either. No bugs, no mosquitos, but they do have sharks but I didn’t see any. It’s just so chill overall.  I don’t know if there’s any other place on earth that offers that kind of weather. And the temperature of the ocean was so warm compared to San Francisco.  I didn’t even need a wet suit and the water temperature was about 72 degrees!! Obviously in San Francisco you can’t swim in the ocean there just because it’s too cold but in San Diego I wouldn’t with no wetsuit. That was pretty darn amazing. I would definitely go back if I had the opportunity. We also went to Legoland ( for tickets) the famous San Diego zoo. Both of those were in smaller towns of Carlsbad and Escondido, both located in San Diego county.

There’s just so much to do there that I would really love to live there. And maybe I will move there after I graduate but time will tell. So I just wanted to give you guys a little update about what was going on and as always I appreciate you reading.

A great day in downtown

Today was a great day in San Francisco.

San Francisco

I got to sing with my church group wire at the local church I belong to, great time and I was really excited that I got to sing a Capella and had the main solo for a particular part of one of the songs. After that, I went to a local restaurant by the name of Gary Danko’s , Which was totally awesome but I highly recommend it, with a couple friends from choir room. You know, I’m on summer break right now but I am taking a few classes, it is a really cool community here on campus at you UCSF. Like I said before the department is awesome, very small and the teachers are very integrated with the students and they seem to really care about them. That’s one of the reasons I pick, to go to school here was that I felt really close with that and that’s a fact. They might not be as highly rated as some other theatrical arts and music programs in the country, but they definitely care of you. So like I said before today was just a beautiful day, and the weather was amazing. The sunset on the bay was absolutely incredible. Did you know actually that journey was talking about the San Francisco Bay what they talked about it in “when the lights go down in the city” in the moon shines on the bay? They’re talking about about San Francisco. It gives me goosebumps every time.

Just an absolutely gorgeous town. So after we had dinner we went out to actually watch some more jazz music and then out to a club. I’m not going to say I’m really the plumbing type, but I did go out because my friends went out. And I danced. Because you know I don’t just do class, I can keep up with the times and do hip-hop dancing AND do what ever I’m asked to do. So I’m pretty versatile, and my singing in my dancing. So after the club was a little bit of an after party and we all came to my apartment just chill.  We ended up watching a little bit of TV, particularly the Steve Harvey game show itself, and a little bit of the old reruns of MTV cribs.

That was a darn good time, everybody was laughing. So great to be around good company and good friends. I have salute Lee love it. Do you know that means? It’s a new Zealander way to say it’s freaking awesome! So yeah, to my friends back at home, I absolutely love living here and I love America. I’m feeling super blessed super excited for the future holds and just for enjoying the summer out here in California and San Francisco.

Music, Music, and More Music

Hello everybody, I’m Melissa from New Zealand and I’m studying music at UCSF. San Francisco has a great music scene, it’s got a world class orchestra, and just an absolute ton of fun things to do. Heres a quick clip of the orchestra performers that was pretty cool to get to know them on a personal level, outside music. It just shows how chill everyone is.

As many of my friends and family have asked me to do, I’m writing this blog just to share with you my love of music and when I’m learning here at the University. I’ve met so many great people here, and I just wanted to get to know more people and share with everybody everything that I’ve gone through which is mostly been good experiences here in San Francisco. The people here are so so nice. There’s absolutely friendly and they all treat each other with a lot of respect. San Francisco is known as the gay capital of the world, and there’s tons of liberal people here but they’re also nice. They even have their little gay pride parade every year which is actually very interesting here’s a quick video of it below from last year.

So you’ll notice that there’s tons of music opportunities here which is what I want to do. I really want to be a Broadway singer or being musicals basically anywhere whether that’s Los Angeles, San Francisco, or New York or Miami. I would even do it internationally if I had to but it doesn’t really matter to me as long as I get to sing for a career. I really want to follow my passion. I will do anything it takes to follow my passion and to sing every day of my life. I really feel strongly about it too because I think it’s a great release for me and I think it’s what I was called to do. You know, some people don’t ever really know what to fully and truly want to do but I think I’ve discovered my truest and highest self which is expressing myself through music. I don’t know if you guys knew this or not but I actually also play guitar. It actually play couple more instruments but the guitar is one of my most dominant instruments that I play. It is so soothing for me to play and it is so relaxing and I just absolutely love it. I wonder how many people can actually say they get to follow their passion each and every single day.

I don’t know but I know I sure am blessed to be able to. So I’m living on campus year and I think it is absolutely beautiful here now it is summertime. I’m actually taking summer courses because I want to graduate early in three years instead of four. Because I want to go out and pursue my passion of singing and music with 100% commitment. But I can only do that if I am out of school. So I deathly want to graduate but I don’t know if I am 100% prepared for the future. I mean honestly, what if I seem three or doesn’t work out. I don’t really have a fallback. I guess I could teach music out of school, probably a private school, but I’m not 100% sure that would actually work. Because I don’t have my teaching credentials. I don’t know… Anyway I am very excited about this blog and keeping up with friends and family, and keeping you guys updated as to my happenings in what I will be doing and following my singing career.
